Prague Motif near Charles Bridge

This atmospheric Prague cityscape most likely depicts Křižovnické Square with the Old Town Bridge Tower beside Charles Bridge. The composition also includes an ornate historic street lamp, the monument and surrounding architecture. Its muted palette and simplified forms create a distinctive period atmosphere.

ATTRIBUTION
Based on information supplied by the owner, the work is attributed to Josef Multrus (1898–1957). The attribution has not been confirmed by an independent expert opinion or documented provenance and does not constitute a certificate of authenticity.

CONDITION
The work is framed under glass. No major crack in the glass is apparent in the supplied photographs, but reflections and possible surface dirt limit precise assessment of the painted surface. The older frame shows clear signs of age and use: rubbing, knocks, local cracks, open joints and losses to the decorative layer, particularly along the edges and corners. The paper/card backing is torn in places and shows earlier interventions. Sold in the condition shown in the photographs.

INSCRIPTIONS ON THE REVERSE
The backing bears older handwritten markings, approximately readable as “K-2.6633” and “Kč 1000–”. These are probably an inventory number and a historical price notation. They are not the current price, an expert valuation, provenance or confirmation of authorship.
