Chinese soapstone figure of a lady with a fan and bird

A small decorative carving in a traditional Chinese style, depicting an elegant female figure dressed in long, flowing robes. She carries a round fan decorated with a floral motif and holds a small bird in her hand.

The figure was most likely carved from soapstone, also known as steatite, a soft natural stone traditionally used for Asian decorative carvings. Its pale green to warm honey colouring contrasts beautifully with the dark, naturally shaped stone base.

The figure may represent a Chinese court lady, a female immortal or possibly Guanyin, the goddess of compassion. As the item is not marked, the exact identity of the figure cannot be confirmed.

An attractive display piece suitable for a cabinet, study or Oriental-inspired interior, as well as for collectors of Asian art and small stone carvings. The condition is consistent with the photographs.
